Take A Peep: LA UNION'S BEST Halo-Halo De Iloko Balay Restaurant
Sorry guys, if only I can tow that car away so you can get a better view of the resto. Haha! |
Hello from La Union! Apparently, summer is approaching so a lot of tourist flock here to enjoy the waves and learn surfing. It's a no brainer. If you say beach plus surfing, it's LU! What's funny is that when you're tired and hungry, it's so hard to pick where are we going to eat. Do you have the same struggle? Yassss! 😁😁😁😅 Especially if you're surrounded by very good restaurants around. One of our friends recommended us to dine in a restaurant but she can't remember the exact name. When we asked a local, Boom! They all knew about it.
So, we hurriedly went into that place because it's already lunch time and our stomachs are growling AF. 😂 Obviously, the place is well-known plus it's a peak hour, unfortunately we have to wait in line for our turn to be served. So just a tip: be here ahead of time or else prepare for yourselves to be on the waitlist. I know right?! People especially tourists insanely wait on queue just to eat here.
While waiting, we got one of the menu so we would have an idea on what they're dishes are. Okayyy, so this resto does not only serve dessert or snack, they also cook authentic Ilocano cuisine. Great! I chose 'Tinola ngā Manôk' and of course their renowned Buko Halo-halo.
Finally, after almost an hour, we got the chance to dine in. Upon entering the resto, you will see right away their souvenir shop. You can buy blankets, bottled sardines, peanuts and more.
They also sell their home-made wine, vinegar, chichacorn (super crispy fried corn bits), ref magnet, hand towels and bracelets made by indigenous people.
This place is actually an old family house turned into a restaurant with native Filipino atmosphere and colorful glass windows. What a stunning interior design!!! I love it.
While we're on standby for our food to be set, we took the opportunity to seat back and appreciate the place. They have an art collection and I think one of the models in the painting looked like my daughter, Riri.. 😍Well, after a few minutes, we we're able to eat our hearts out! I wasn't able to take a picture of our food because it disappeared in just a blink of an eye. LOL!!!
But wait!!! I definitely have to take a shot of their talked about BUKO HALO-HALO. Halo-halo is a filipino comfort food which contains ice shavings and different ingredients. Hence, it's called Halo-halo which means mixed ingredients. Here's the reason why it's their house specialty: it has fine ice shavings with yummy ube halaya (purple yam), yema (sweet condensed milk boiled for hours), crispy pinipig (rice flakes) boiled bananas, sago (tapioca), gulaman (gelatin cubes), beans, langka (jackfruit), corn kernels, macapuno strips, ground peanuts, salt and pepper (just kidding! 😜) a scoop of ube ice cream, and lastly, topped with grated cheese. ALL these things served beautifully in a coconut shell. BTW, if you'll order this, they will also give the buko juice separately in a glass. So don't bother about ordering another drink. 😉
After feasting upon their authentic ilocano dishes, you will surely want to go to sleep because of your fully satisfied stomach. So, to the driver...GOODLUCK TO YOUR DRIVING. HAHA! Ciao!!
