Churros Recipe

Home-made Churro is a must-try!!! I know it's all over malls and its pretty affordable but cooking it at home gives you a nice bonding moment with your family.
Just like puto bungbong (a purple colored dessert made with rice cooked in bamboo tubes and bibingka (a type of Filipino rice cake), Churros are also one of the popular desserts eaten  especially during the holidays or after a cold simbang gabi (early morning mass).

Ingredients

Churros:
1 cup water
1/2 cup butter
1 cup all purpose flour
3 eggs, beaten
1/4 tsp salt
Vegetable oil
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)

Chocolate dip:
1 cup milk
1 tbsp sugar
2 oz dark chocolate
1 tsp cornstarch

Procedure

1. To make a dough: combine water, butter & salt in a non-stick pan then bring to boil. Next, add in the flour then stirr vigorously using a wooden spoon until it forms a ball. Turn the heat off  then put the eggs gradually but continue stirring until its sticky all together.

2. Spoon the dough in a pastry bag or plastic bag with a large tip. Squeeze a 4-inch strip of dough into a hot oil. Fry churros 3-4 strips at a time then turn them once until golden brown. Once cooked, transfer the churros in a plate with paper towels to drain some of the oils. If its no longer too hot to handle, roll it over to the sugar-cinnamon mixture.

3. For the chocolate dip: In a bowl, dissolve cornstarch in the milk then reserve. In a sauce pan, combine chocolate and sugar until its melted. Lastly, add the reserved milk and whisk constantly until it thickens.

Serve it with either warm milk or hot choco then devour it on your couch on a cold holiday season. Ciaó for now!
