Orange Chocolate Cake Recipe

One day,  Yuri and I were in a supermarket then I saw on the "Baking Needs" section this recipe at the back of a cake mix box.  So I decided to give it a try for the holidays.

Ingredients

Cake:

1 pack Maya Decadence Devil's Food cake mix 550g
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 cup water
2 eggs
1 tbsp orange extract

Chocolate Whipped Cream:

2 tbsp cocoa powder
1/2 tbsp orange extract
1/2 cup whipping cream,  chilled & whipped

Chocolate Butter Icing:

1/2 cup butter
2 cups confectioner's sugar
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1/4 cup whipping cream

                       Procedure

Prepare cake:

1. Preheat oven to 350° F/177° C or you can also use a steamer if you don't have an oven like me.   Grease the sides & bottom of a 6x3 inch round pan.  Set aside.

2. Combine all ingredients in a bowl.  Beat until well-blended.

3. Put the mixture in the prepared pan.  Bake/steam for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted at the center comes out clean.  Set aside to cool.

Prepare chocolate whipped cream:

1. Fold cocoa powder and orange extract in the whipped cream. Set aside.

Prepare chocolate butter icing :

1. In a large bowl, cream butter  and set aside.
2. In another bowl, combine confectioner's sugar and cocoa powder.

3. Alternately add sugar-cocoa mixture and whipping cream to the creamed butter mix until everything is well incorporated.

To assemble:

1. Cut the cake horizontally into half then assemble it with chocolate whipping cream in between the layers.

2. Cover the cake with chocolate butter icing.  Decorate as desired. Tip: Make sure that the cake has totally cooled down before decorating to prevent the icing from melting.

Finished product

Definition of Terms:

Whip - the process of beating an ingredient vigorously to incorporate air.

Fold - term used for gently combining a delicate mixture into a heavier textured, thicker mixture to ensure that both are properly combined.

Cream the butter - soften the butter and beat it with a wooden spoon or an electric mixer until it forms a light,  uniform & creamy mixture.

Baking needs a lot of work. It may be discouraging at first but once you see the end result,  it will make you feel fulfilling!  For me,  it's kinda addicting because right now,  I am thinking of the next cake I'm gonna make. Till my next cooking...  Ciaó!
